The schooner READY was wrecked at South Arm, Fox Bay in West Falkland sometime between 8th and 20th October 1881. The area is also known as Fox Bay West. Little information has been uncovered about exactly when and how the READY was wrecked but confirmation of her demise comes from the then Falkland Islands Company Local Manager, Fred Cobb, who wrote the following to his head office in London: “Mr. Dean is having a run of ill luck. [By the] last, mail I reported the ORISSA’s mishap, and I have now heard of the total loss of the READY, formerly ALLEN GARDINER, in Fox Bay, not a mile from where his ANNE BROOKS lies. Mr. Dean now talks of a steamer.” No other details are available. The READY had a number of names in a 27-year career. She was called the LETITIA for a year, between 1875 and 1876, and before that was the ALLEN GARDINER for 21 years between 1854 and 1875.
