On 1st October 1878, PERONELLE, 72 days out from London, arrived in Stanley with a crew of seven. Between 1878 and 1882, she made regular voyages between West Falkland ports and Stanley, as a farm support vessel and mail carrier. On 30th May 1879, PERONELLE came across the frost-bitten, shipwrecked crew of the Welsh Barque JESSIE, taking them to safety at Fox Bay. In July 1890, she was involved in another rescue, reported in the press: “Much sympathy will be felt for Captain Hansen in the loss of his schooner FOAM. All on board escaped, the crew are on the PERONELLE”. Between 1888-1892 PERONELLE was engaged in general coasting work, including sealing voyages, and trips to Punta Arenas in Chile to collect lumber. On7th July 1892, she herself became a wreck in Monument Bay, Evangelist Islands, Chile, off the Western entrance to the Strait of Magellan. Local press said: “The PERONELLE, while out sealing, ran on a rock and went down in a few minutes, all were saved and 100 seal skins.”
