PANDORA, owned by the Falkland Islands Company Limited, arrived in Stanley on 5th April 1892, from Portsmouth with a crew of five commanded by J. M. Gilchrist. On 29th November 1893, a despatch from the company’s office in Stanley to headquarters in London, stated: “Our two old schooners will have to be very smart this season, as both the PANDORA and CHANCE are laid up and I have only them to rely upon until the arrival of the THETIS”. Which was strange, because a few days later she was put up for sale: “For Sale: the Schooner PANDORA. Apply A.E. Baillon, F.I.C.”. On 24th September 1894 PANDORA left Stanley for West Falkland. She was never seen again. A local press report had this to say: “It is with much regret we report the loss of the schooner PANDORA which was wrecked at Punta Delgada on 27th September. After having had some dreadful weather in the Straits, the Captain had to run her ashore as she was sinking. The crew had to leave her, and she started to break up immediately.”
