There are few details about how the Spanish fishing trawler came to sink. According to a press report in Spain: “The FERRALEMES took more than five hours to sink in the waters of the Falklands, from 2.45 am when the leak was detected until after eight in the morning.” A spokesperson for the owners, RBC Ltd, describing the loss as a ‘bitter blow’ went on to explain that “The vessel was an excellent trawler and has been an integral part of the group since the beginning. However, no lives were lost, and we are very thankful for that – to a large part that was down to the conduct of the crew who reacted extremely well under very difficult circumstances.”
