Little is known about how the CHRISTINE came to be wrecked near Cape Pembroke. News of her demise came in a single report from Frederick E. Cobb, the German Consul at Stanley in 1879, who wrote to the German Chancellor in Berlin: “I have the honour to inform your Highness that the Barque CHRISTINE belonging to Messers Rech & Boyes of Bremen was totally lost on the 18 October 1879 when making this port. All 14 of the crew were saved, in a small boat, but lost all their effects. I immediately rendered them assistance and enclose all the vouchers to the sum of £163-9-3d, as well as a copy of evidence respecting the casualty list of crew and how disposed of, and I have to request that your Highness will, at your convenience, cause my disbursements to be repaid to my account within the Falkland Islands Company, London.” With the dispatch were a number of enclosures: “Account with vouchers; Copy of evidence; List of Crew; Disposal of Crew; Auction account. £28-14-6d”
