The BEACON is a bit of a mystery wreck. In 2018 a Falkland Islands’ resident, Robert Rowlands reported finding signs of a “small vessel” on Narrows Point which he believed were “the remains” of the BEACON. Until that discovery, if indeed it is a ‘discovery’, no details of the sailing vessels loss had come to light. Prior to 2018 there are sketchy details of previous BEACON owners: Bert Ratcliffe; Jack Bowles; Ian Campbell; Mickey Clarke. There is also some photographic evidence of her – in 1935 she was pictured in Stanley Harbour anchored midway between the Public and East Jetties and in 1933 she was 1933 was seen anchored close inshore, midway between The Public and West Jetties, in Stanley. Otherwise the only other sighting is the report of her breaking away from her moorings and being wrecked on Narrows Point at the entrance to Stanley Harbour sometime between 1965 and 1967.
